2009 Audi A8
MSRP
$62,200-72,500
Awaiting a redesign in 2009, the 2009 Audi A8, Audi's flagship sedan, only sports revised options. A8 comes in regular-length base and S8
versions, and as the longer-body A8L. All share a basic design dating from 1994 and have aluminum-intensive construction and Audi's
quattro all-wheel-drive system.
Their 4.2-liter V8 has 310 hp in the base and A8L versions, 360 in S8. A 5-speed automatic with manual shift gate is the only transmission.
Standard are antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, an antiskid system, front/rear torso side airbags, and curtain side airbags. The A8L comes with
heated front/rear seats, power rear sunshade, and manual rear-door sunshades; all optional for other models.
GM's OnStar assistance is available on all models, which can be enhanced with extra-cost in-car e-mail service. The S8 includes 18-inch
wheels vs. the other models' standard 16s or optional 17s, plus uprated suspension and sport front seats. For 2009, the navigation system is
optional instead of standard on the A8L; it remains standard on the other models.
The optional Premium packages for all models expand to include a tire-pressure monitor and new-design wheels. The base version's adds
xenon headlamps, which already were standard for the other models. And the S8 and A8L gain Audi's Parktronic front/rear-obstacle-warning
system. In addition, the S8 gets exclusive standard colors, special wood Interior trim, and other touches to signal the end of this design
generation.
